Re: Week three, September 9-15, 2013. Amy Perez; 5AB.
Extra, Extra, Read all about it!!!!!
Hello everyone, as I was viewing the news I was intrigued by an event which involve an individual impersonating a police officer. I was appalled, in this day and time how one cannot distinguish the difference between police officer and an imposter posing as a police officer. Nonetheless, Miami police are looking for victims of 26-year-old Luis Fumero, who is accused of impersonating a police officer.
It was noted Fumero robbed elderly victims and illegal immigrants. Fumero was arrested on August 20, 2013 and faces several charges including armed robbery and falsely impersonating an officer. Police said they have at least three cases against Fumero possibly more. Do you think laws should be stricter as it relates to police uniforms being accessible to the public? Why or Why not? What do you think would be a reasonable sanction for individuals impersonating police officers?

As I was reading this I couldn't believe he wasn't arrested sooner. Police officers have a kind of style and walk so when you see someone that’s not an officer but wearing the uniform it should be a red flag or a light bulb turning on. None the less, I do believe the law should be stricter as it regards to police uniforms and also police cars that go on auction. Now a day’s identity theft is so easy, and it's almost like we're handing the thieves the information. In my opinion Mr. Luis Fumero should be given at least a 7 years sanction for all of his wrong doings without the possibility of parole.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the changing of the uniform but at the same time making laws stricter is just calling for propaganda to happen. Your sanction is just not stricter for someone who may have more than just one case against him.
DeleteI agree, the law should be stricter as it regards to the police uniforms and police cars that go on auction. If this were to happen there wouldn't be all this impersonation of police officers.
DeleteI agree with that seven years is kind of letting him off easy, but thirty years is too much for theft in my opinion. Depending on how severe the other charges are should determine whether or not he should get thirty years.
DeleteI also agree that the amount of years is too low for the impersonation of a police officer. Also I do agree that the law should pay more attention to the matter, we should not be asking ourselves, who is a real police officer.
DeleteI agree, with you Shawnise police officers do have a sort of style to walk. Also yes he should have been arrested earlier he was an impersonator of a police officer. True identity theft is so easy now a days for his wrongs he should get 7 years sanction also with the possiblity of parole I do agree with that also.
DeleteI agree with you. The law should be stricter when it comes to police uniforms and police cars. Like you said, now a days is so easy for someone to get a hold of them. I believe a reasonable sanction for Fumero would be at least 10 years. You just can't impersonate a officer and get away with it.
DeleteI agree with you when you say the laws should be stricter. So many cases have happened with people posing as police officers, and if the law doesn't tighten the system it is just gonna keep happening. As for the sanction, I think he should get 15 years for all the charges he has and for impersonating a police officer.
DeleteI extremely agree with you. Identity theft has become a more frequent crime in the United States. Stricter laws on impersonating a police officer can reduce these types of crimes. Fumero found it easy to impersonate an officer,so he could swindle his victims. Regular citizens should not have easy access to police officers uniforms or a police veichles. Laws and specific regulations can prevent officer impersonation through out our country .
DeleteI don’t agree with making stricter laws with people buying police uniform .Because police officers should have something different with their uniforms to show that their real officers than just an imposter. Luis Fumero should get at 30 years in prison with parole so he can learn his lesson.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree, because now we don't have strict laws on police uniform and we have people posing as police officers. Since there is a problem we should fix it. And isn’t 30 years a little harsh he committed theft not murder, why should 30 years of his life be taken away. If that’s the case we might as well give that to the kids that steal juice out of the cafeteria.
DeleteI agree with you on changing the uniforms for police officers because the law should be harder on this particular crime.
DeleteI don't agree that Luis should have to face 30 years in prison. I agree his crime was not right. However, I don't believe that amount of punishment is necessary. Also, I do agree with him on the fact that the uniforms should have a different sign or something to differentiate them.
DeleteI agree with his sentence in jail for 30 years. I also agree with the distinct difference between real and fake uniforms. I don't agree with the law to remain the same after this incident, but rather be a little more strict.
DeleteI agree with the sentence and the chaging of the uniforms. The reason being is that more things will start changing by the fact that something always has to happen and then everyone takes action. So what Luis did was wrong and now he has to make the time for it.
DeleteI agree with you Rolando but only on the uniform. Police officers should have something different to make it 100% noticeable that they are in fact real police officers. However I do not agree with the sentence but he did commit some harsh crimes stealing from the elderly and immigrants for his personal pleasures. But I think he should get the maximum of 20 years in prison.
DeleteIn my opinion, I don't agree with the sentence of 30 years. Although, Luis Fumero impersonated a police officer and robbed elderly and immigrant victims, I think 10 years in prison would be alright, including the parole.
DeleteI agree Luis Fumero should get 30 years for robbing elderly victims and impersonating a police officer.
DeleteI don't agree that he should get 30 years. Even though he did impersonate an officer and have so many charges I think 15 years would be acceptable.
Deletei agree with your statment because polise officers do need to have a diffrent type of uniform or atleast something on them to show that they are ledgit police officers.
DeleteI disagree with you, there are so many people that take advantage of the rules not being strict relating to the uniforms. They should be more strict. Therefore, the rates of crimes have a chance to decrease.
DeleteYes Diego I agree with you 100%. Police officers should have something noticeable in their uniforms so peolpe can tell that they are real police officers.
Delete30 years seems like too much of a punishment. That's equivalent to a first degree felony which is equivalent to murder. Impersonation of a police officer is a crime, but it its not as serious. If anything, it's a third degree felony, which is 2-10 years.
DeleteI don't really agree on not making stricter laws. I think we need stricter laws on selling illegal uniforms to random people. I also think 30 years is a little bit to much.
DeleteI agree that the law should be stricter on selling illegal uniforms to random people, because any person can go and rent police officer uniforms. The law should change the police officer uniform so the people can be alert of who is a real police officer or not, but I don't agree that he should get 30 years in prison.
DeleteI disagree with you on where Luis Fumero should face 30 years in prison. Yes, he did wrong on impersonating and robbery but I still do not think this punishment is needed. I also disagree with you on not make laws stricter with these uniforms. They should be stricter on selling these uniforms the public. There should not be any access to these uniforms, period!.
DeleteWoah! Thirty years in prison sounds a bit too much. I know robbery and impersonating an officer is bad but he could've done so much worse with the power he had. I also disagree with your opinión on not making laws stricter on the uniforms cause then more people will be doing what Luis Fumero did.
DeleteI agree with you on changing the uniforms. People should not be able to get uniforms that are the same as the officers. But, I disagree with you on the punishment. I would give him 10 years in prison.
DeleteI agree with your sentencing but i don't agree with not changing the uniforms. Anyone can go to the a costume store and buy a police uniform. The should add something that makes a real police uniform unique.
DeleteI don't agree that he should get 30 years. Even though he did impersonate an officer and have so many charges I think 10 years would be acceptable.
DeleteYes, I believe the law should be stricter on Luis Fumero because people should learn of his mistakes and he should get a strong sentence. Police uniforms should not be for the public because anybody can get them and that’s not good. A reasonable sanction for individuals impersonating police officers should get 15 years without parole.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with the sanction. I think that is perfect for him and also I strongly believe that he should answer for all of his criminal actions.
DeleteI agree with you because it makes perfect sense because people cannot be attacked when only one person did the crime. The sanction is actually reasonable for his case.
DeleteI strongly agree with what you say Francisco, they should be very strict when it comes to the uniforms. And he needs to learn from his mistakes so he should be punished for them.
DeleteI agree with what you're saying Francisco ,people should not be able to get ahold of police uniforms. He knew what he was doing he knows he wasn't doing right and you're right he should get 15 years without parole.
DeleteI agree with your sanction. Laws should be stricter and he should get about 15 years for what he did.
DeleteI agree with the sanction also. It's so wrong to impersonate people that are supposed to make us feel safe not afraid of impersonation.
DeleteI agree with you that the sentence for impersonating an officer should be raised. And the sanction should be rsised to twenty years with parol.
DeleteWay to go Janae; you are the first to blog!!!!MacArthur United!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mrs. Harrell.
DeleteIn my perspective I believe, that the law should be stricter. It should be stricter because people would think that it’s alright to impersonate police officers, or any public servant of the law. Currently the sanction for impersonating a police officer is up to five years in prison and a fine of one thousand dollars or more. I believe that they should raise the sanction to a felony third degree which consists of ten years with parole, and a fine of two thousand dollars or more.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that the law should be stricter because if it is not then people will believe it is okay to keep impersonating officers.
DeleteI agree 100% that the law should be stricter to protect society from low life criminals. In my opinion the criminal should be charged with a much bigger sanction. The fines should also be raised because of the fact that he robbed the innocent people in his community.
DeleteI agree with you jose, i beleive that the charge sould be raised to a felony and that the inpersonater should be charged with more.
DeleteI agree with you on the laws getting stricter, and I definitely agree with you when it comes to raising the sanction so it consist of 10 years instead of just 5 years with parole.
DeleteI agree that he did commit a felony and he should be charge for impersonating the officers. I believe that 25 years should be good for him and the rest that try to commit felony to learn a lesson.
DeleteI agree the law should be stricter and give him no mercy for impersonating someone that should be highly respected.
DeleteIn my perspective I believe, laws should be stricter as it relates to police uniforms being accessible to the public. Uniforms shouldn’t be accessible to the public because no one wants this impersonation of an officer to continue. A reasonable sanction for individuals impersonating police officers should be three to seven years depending on what other crime the committed while impersonating an officer. I believe Fumero should receive at minmum of six to seven years in prison.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI agree with you that real authentic police uniforms should not be accessible to the public. But fake ones for plays, coustumes, and movies should be. Of course, we will have to come up with an efficient way to distinguish the real from the fake.
DeleteI completley agree with everything you mentioned, Marisol. Police uniforms should'nt be accessible. I also agree with the punishment you would give him, because i would have gave him 5 years.
DeleteI agree with you Marisol. If I were to have any position as to authority I'd change the uniforms often, and alson notify the society of the change. Officers should also wear something that shows the year.
DeleteI agree with you because they should get a higher sentence for impersinating an officer. And they should get years added to their sentence depending on what crimes they commit.
DeleteIn my opinion, we should be making some type of uniforms that has a specific type of patch that would not be able to be replicate. This would make it more impossible for others to make the same uniform. So therefore, a law should be past that gives more time in jail or in prison, meaning there should be a bigger sentence related to this. Nonetheless, we should make an example out of him as the Criminal Justice System always does to other type of cases. So yes, we should give a bigger sentence to people that impersonate police officers. Hence, I would give him a 15 year sentence in prison with parole. Therefore we are making sure that he learned his lesson.
ReplyDeleteHi Jonathan I know you said the patch for police uniforms would not be able to be replicated, but although it may be difficult to do so it is not impossible. So i think that it be better if the police would just show us their identification. But your idea was defenetly a good one, that just needs some modifications.
DeleteI strongly agree with what you're saying jonathan ,it would be a great idea to make uniforms that people will be able to tell if if they're real police officers and not being imposters. That would be a great idea to make a law for this police offices that worked so hard for people can just used and do illegal stuff. This elderly people didn't know and he just took advantage of them.
DeleteYour right Jonathan they need to make a new uniform that would be hard for the public to get.
DeleteIn my opinion, I believe laws should be stricter when it comes to police uniforms. This is because there shouldn't be access to uniforms that look exactly alike to police uniforms. In that case, anyone is able to impersonate police officers & cause harm. Hence, I would give him 4-5 years in prison for commiting a robbery crime and impersonating a police officer.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the idea of making special designed police uniforms. Although it is a good idea, taxes will more likely increase for a while, but you can not put a price on safety.
DeleteI agree with your statement about the police uniforms, beacuse they should know when its an official police officer by showing proof. Therefore I would increase the time for Luis Fumero because he cause 3 major crimes. Maybe he deserves more time to realize what he has done.
DeleteI disagree with the amount of years given to Luis. He should be given at least 10 years in prison due to the fact that he impersonated an officer and took advantage of the elderly by the robberies he committed.
DeleteI agree with your sanction due to the lack of severity to the crime. I'm not belittling his actions, but a lof of worse things could have occured considering how much power he obtained by impersonating a public offical.
DeleteI agree with your idea of making special uniforms. This is because there are more people out there that do this and are getting away with it. I dont agree with how many years you give him. I believe 8 to 10 years should be enough because he caused danger to society.
DeleteI agree but i would give him a longer time in jail. Not only did he take advantage of people but he may have taken money or any other thing of personal value. He also stained the police force creating distrust in them. I personally would have given him 20 years with no parole.
DeleteThe law about police uniforms being accessible to the public should be taken care of. Many people could get affected if the uniforms continue to be accessible by the public. There has to be something done about these false uniforms as soon as possible. These false uniforms put society in a dangerous position. Who is a real Police Officer? This should not be a question that we have to ask ourselves, we do not have to live in fear. As for Luis Fumero he should be placed in prison for 10 years, for the impersonation of a police officer, plus another 15 years for the robberies that were committed.
ReplyDeleteAs my perspective, I highly agree with you about the 10 year sentence then the "15 years for the robberies that were committed" sounds just about right, as well. Hopefully the laws will get a bit stricter for the public community because we should not "live life in fear."
DeleteThe police uniforms should be changed into a unique uniform that is only accessible to the real police officers. If I was part of the DPS I would change the uniforms immediately. If I was the judge I would give him 20 to 30 Years in prison with a bail of $100,000 with pending parole. This is including all the other crimes that he has committed like the robberies of innocent people.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you the police officers that have there degree in law should have a unique uniform to tell the differences between the real one and the fake ones. I say any store that sales the fake police uniforms shall make them sign a agreement saying they won't use it in any harmful way. Also, the fake uniforms should be noticeable that they are fake, or have a sign on them very noticeable stating its an imposter.
DeleteI agree with having to change the uniforms immediately for the saftey. The uniforms should be different from the ones sold in the stores. I think he deserves the amount of time in prison as well because he did alot of harmful crimes, and because of him there will be alot of changes now.
DeleteI agree with the change of the uniforms, but it should be done by one company. Having many companies issue uniforms only makes it easier for crooks to get away with their crimes.
DeleteIn my honest opinion I believe the police uniform needs to be changed in a way that they will know which are the inposters and which are the police officers. Now, I also beleieve he could of had more charges dealing with innocent people that didn't even know what was coming there way. That being said, I'm very shocked, reason being that they didn't catch him right away they gave him free time then took action and caught the criminal. Identity theft is a serious matter now and days it's very given to others but some take it to far.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Selena, the public should have a way of knowing the differences between a real and fake police officers uniform. Idenitity theft is a serious matter now and days its really common for theives to hack into anyone's bank account and get all their information.
DeleteI agree the uniforms need to be changed, so that innocent people don't get caught up in identity theft. My question is we as paying citizens shouldn't we have a right to ask the officer for his badge number without fear of being punished.
DeletePolice uniforms will always be accesible to the public in the sense that they act as costumes for various events. The distinction between an authentic one and a false one should be evident, but obviously everyone will have a different perception. The distribution of the uniforms will not cease, but the common sense some individuals have should increase. The victims would be in all their right to ask for proper identification or some type of badge indictating their occupation in the police force. A reasonable sanction for the Fumero would be five to fifteen years in prison with a posibility of parole.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the uniforms of police officers will always be accesible to anyone, i also agree with what you said about showing a badge or some sort of real identification.
DeleteI fully agree with you Maria, crimes like these deserve more of a punishment than any other.Because impersonating a police officer can be very dangerous to many civilans and police officers as well.
DeleteI agree with you, the uniforms should have some type of difference between the two. They should also have a certain type of unique badge.
DeleteI strongly agree with you , officer uniforms are very identical with the fake ones. I also agree that people should be able to ask for an identification to police officers.
DeleteI'm shocked to that police officers could not tell the difference between an officer and a civilian. No I do not think police uniforms should not be accessible to the public but police officer's uniforms should have some sort of verification on them.To realize which is an impersonator and which is a real police officer. But I think they should be accessible to the public because without a dream you cannot succeed(meaning dreaming to a police officer from a little kid is something that can enhance you to become apart of the criminal justice.)To me a reasonable sanction for the impersonators is intermediate with parole.
ReplyDeleteI am also shocked that no one was able to figure out that he was impersinating a police officers. I also think your sanctions are fair because Im sure he wont try impersinating an offficer again.
DeleteI agree officers should tell the difference between one of their own and a civilian.
DeleteI agree there should be two different kind of uniforms. one that you can tell that is fake for those who dream to become a police officer, and one that you can tell is real that you can tell it's a real police officer.
DeleteDreaming is good and I agree with you about having two very distinguishable uniforms for those who dream to be police officers or whatever the case may be. As for the sanction, I also agree with you. The crime was not so serious like murder, but not too little crime like trespassing.
DeleteI agree with you ,Diego. I my self am one of those who has dreamed of becoming part of the law enforcement ever since I was a kid. I also agree to what you said about the police uniforms ,there should be different types and a way to distinguish the real one's from the fake one's. As for taking action I also agree, the crime was not big but deserves a sentence for it.
DeleteWhat Luis Fumero did is just completly schoking. I can't beleive that he went days undectected by other cops! There should defenetly be stricter laws when it comes to police uniforms. I'm not saying that they should confescate every uniform in the public, but there should be some kind of sign to distinguish a fake cop from a real one. As for Fumero's punishment I would give him at least 8 years of prison. Because
ReplyDeletenot only did he impersonate a cop but he also victimised people, so the 8 years of imprisoment will give them justice. And it will make an example of Fumero that what he did is not taken lightly.
I agree. The police uniforms should have some sort of badge or something to distinguish them from imposters; then again nothing that can be easy to copy. Police departments should also let out a public notice of the new changes of these uniforms.
DeleteI also agree. Police uniforms should not be allowed to the public because it will obviously cause some sort of crime. The real uniforms should have a badge or some sort of authenticity. Also, other police officers should have known that Luis wasn't a real officer.
DeleteI agree with the badge to see which one is the real or fake . I also agree about giving him 8 year for all the crimes he did.
DeleteWow, isn't that sad. You can't even get stopped by a police officer without feeling comfortable and wonder if it is a real police officer or an imposter. I think there should be a law in our state that requires any retail store not to sell fake or real police uniforms to the public, due to the fact that anyone can buy them and trick innocent people and may cause them harm. The police should be held accountable only to the policemen that are certify and have their license. Anyone who would impersonate a police officer shall go to jail for at least five years, that is not including the crime they commit.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completly on this Gabriella. The crime of impersonating a police officer is very dangerous to the public. The punishment of up to 5 years in prison may be a lesson learner to future criminals
DeleteI'm with you on this one Gabrielle. It is to be a serious crime to impersonate a police officer. Five years in jail seems good enough amount of time for a person who's commited the crime of impersonating a police officer.
DeleteI agree with you Gabrielle. Anyone can just walk into a store, buy a uniform that looks very similar to a police officer's, and wear it. I am also with you on the sentencing when it comes to impersonating an officer.
DeleteI do agree , this is shameful. The thought of having to watch out for fraud officers , should be least of our worries . There has been many duplicated uniforms . This needs to be stopped . . Making a strict law of this manner needs to be done .
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteNow a days many people try to do anything to get extra money, so they find it easy to inpersinate a police officer, becuase like others stated the uniform is easy to access.I think that they should only let police officers buy the uniform, and before the uniform is sold the police officer should show their badge.I would give him ten years with a chance of parole.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement Denise authorized police officers should have some kind of identification to prove their role in the justice system. Also Make some modifications to were it can be easily identified if its a poser or an actually police officer.
Deletesounds like a good idea about the bages. they should have a background check as well because people now a days can make anything as well as police officers bages.
DeleteI agree with you Denise and that seems fair enough of a sanction. And it really is easy to get a hold of a police uniform. So the public should just be aware of people could possibly be impersonating a police officer.
DeleteYes Denise, only police officers should be allowed to purchase a real police officer uniform. Some fake uniforms can resemble the real police uniforms to much. Showing a badge to a seller can ensure that officer impersonation will decrease . This can also ease trust between peace officers and the citizens they protect.
DeleteI agree impersonating a police officer is a huge offense , because in a situation were someone gets hurt and that person is wearing a police uniform and not a police officer can get someone hurt or even killed for that . I say that they should give the 25 yrs in prison without parole for robbing all those innocent people and for committing identity theif which is a federal offense
DeleteI think there should be a difference between a real police officers outfit and a fake police officer outfit. The officers outfit should be harder to obtain anywhere in the united states. There should be a differendce in the color or in the stiching. If anybody inpersonates a police officer they should go to jail for all their crime they did using the uniform, and i think any store shouldn't sell any police uniforms to the general public.
ReplyDeleteI agree Jesse Their should be a diffrence in the uniform. Something that would be easy to identify. Especially how easy it to get an exact copy of the uniforms. More precautions should be advised.
DeleteA real police officers uniform should be more difficult to obtain here in the United States. There has been many cases where criminals use a police officer uniform to commit a crime. Uniform companies or stores should only sell officer uniforms to officers. The officer could be asked for his badge to ensure that a regular citizen is not buying the real uniform. In order to decrease police impersonation,a higher sentence for the crime can make people think twice about impersonating a police officer. The offender should receive the maximum of eight years for the crime committed.
ReplyDeleteI exactly agree with you . Officers shouldn't have to pay for their uniforms just because others out there are duplicating them . I do agree on the Time you are giving . He should learn his lesson from this .
DeleteYes I agree with you Lesley your right anyone can ask a police officer for his badge or some more identification other than just a uniform. I believe not a lot of people are aware of this right they have so they should just try and be more aware of all the different types of crimes they're really are now.
DeleteI agree with you Lesley. Uniform stores should ask for some sort of identification to verify that a actual police officer is trying to purchase the uniform. By doing this crimes that involves the impersonation of a police officer could be lowered.
DeleteOf course laws should be more stricton obtaining a police uniform, for this exatct situation. The uniforms that are used by the police in a county should only be accessible by the police agency located in that county. It should not be obtainable online or at any other retail stores. A resonable punishment would be 5 years of prison with a number of check ups after being realseasd, to insure he is not doing any unlawful actions.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the law should be stricter on about obtaining a police uniform. I also think the uniforms should only be accessible by a police agency.
Deletei agree that the law should be strict on obtaining police uniforms but officers should have some detail that informs people who are the real officers and the impersonators so that it wont happen anymore.
Deletei think the police should be more strick in giving police uniforms to the public because people always have bad intentions and want to harm others.the best sanction for individuals impersonating police officers is to give them a maximum of 20 years in prison for the crime commited
ReplyDeleteI agree people always do have bad intentions, and harm others. But 20 years is a long time for that. You have someone get away with killing ,and have less time than that. Maybe you should give him 5-10 years with community service
DeleteI agree with that because some people take advantage with the law that you can wear the police officer uniform. The police officer should have a greater power over the city because they take care of us,and they should have another kind of uniform.
DeleteI agree with making the laws more strict dealing with a police uniform. Police uniforms should only be allowed to police officers and not to anybody else. I would say Luis Fumero should be sentenced to 30 years in prison.
ReplyDeleteI agree with uniform being strict should be given to actual police officers. And i believe sentencing the to 30yrs in prison is alittle to much. i believe it should less than that.
DeleteI also agree with you that officer's uniforms should be a strict law. Their will be too many problems if people have access to the same uniforms as the officers. But, 30 years in prison is too much. I would say 2-10 years in prison.
DeleteI also agree with you about the uniforms and the years. The fact that he robbed defenseless elders and illegal immigrants while impersonating an officer is just wrong.
DeleteIt's shocking to know they are barely catching him and there could possibly be more people out there trying to impersonating police officer's. I believe the laws should be more stricked on the people who buy police uniforms. At least show proff or make the official police uniform different from the ones in the stores so this case wont accure agian. Luis Fumero should get a really strong sentence to realize his mistakes on everything he has done.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you.I believe the laws should be stricked on the police who buy police uniforms. They should aslo show proof .
DeleteI agree, the uniforms should look different that way people will be able to tell apart a police officer's uniform from a costume.
DeleteYou sure are right Yesenia, store owners should ask the customer who buys a police uniform for identification. And I agree that they should sell different uniforms from the police uniforms.
DeleteI really think laws should be stricter as it relates to police uniforms. People are so fraud and ignorant, and can cover up things good. Maybe they should have a secret code or a different badge of some sort to show people that they really are a police officer. Sometimes they don’t make a good impression on it, but still it’s not a good thing to have replicate police officers. They can do anything, if they get away with it. I think 5 to 8 years with parole. Also check on him or maybe even put him on community service. All this to say that police officer uniforms should have complicated patterns, and unique things on them that the public can’t view or steal.
ReplyDeleteThere should be more precautions taken on the distributions of these uniforms. The fact that someone would even try to imulate policeman for their own pearsonal gain is appaling. The role of an police officer is to protect and keep its community safe. Hense the police orginizatiion should take this matter more seriously. Therefore this imposter should get 10 years without the possibility of parole.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think the laws should be more strict as is it relates to police uniforms. There are so many criminals that take advantage of the fact that police uniforms can be easily accessible to the public. Not only that, the crime percentage can decrease by making the laws stricter relating to the police uniforms. A reasonable sanction for individuals impersonating police officers should be 15 to 20 years in prison without parole.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe the laws about police officer's uniforms should be stricter. The reason being is those uniforms are used to ditinguuish authority from citizens. Unless the person is an officer they must not have any access to police officer's uniforms.
ReplyDeleteI believe the laws should be more strict on the police uniforms. This is not the only case in which impersonating a police officer has taken place. If the laws don't tigthen up on the uniforms, these impersonations are just going to keep taking place. Yes, Fumero did get arrested but that doesn't neccessarily mean he, or anyone else, won't do it again. As for the sanction, I think he should get 15-30 years without parole because of all the charges and because impersonating a police officer to do harm should never be acceptable.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the police uniforms should have something to be distinguished from other uniforms. The time in prison is applicable for the crimes he committed.
DeleteI strongly agree with you. If one person did it, then that means more can too. The time you would give him are applicable for the crimes he committed.
DeleteI agree with you, People will keep doing this if the laws do not become more strict. And I would of given him the 15-30 years well because that's not the only crime he committed.
Deletei think that uniforms should be privet for only officers of the law. the public should not have any acceces to the police uniforms at all. this gentel should be put in prison 35-45 years in the prison system.
ReplyDeleteI think that is too long of a sentence for an individual who didn't murder nor did he severly physically harm someone. The accesibility of police uniforms to the public is inevitable, therefore it is the civilian's job to be to distinguish an official officer versus a false one for their safety.
DeleteI think you have to keep in mind he has more cases held against him. A person isn't always sentenced that long for murder. Everything can add up to that long of a sentence. So, yes I agree with the sentence but only with parole.
DeleteYes I think that the law should be strict about being able to distribute police uniforms to the public, because look what is happing now people can just go out and buy the uniforms and rob innocent people for their stuff. People of the society can’t tell the difference between a real or fake policeman that come up to them. A reasonable sanction for perpetrator is 10 yrs. in life, because first there risking peoples life by doing the things that there doing that they have no right or ability to do so.
ReplyDeletei agree of your opinion in stricting the laws of distributing the police uniforms. It is also agreedable for them to to serve 10yrs.
DeleteI believe the laws should be strict about police uniforms in the public. The uniforms should only be worn by the officers of the law.
ReplyDeleteI agree, you have a point there. Uniforms should only be worn by officers of the law because any other human can take advantage of the uniform & break the law or hurt many people.
Deletein my oponion, i believe the laws should be strict on police uniforms. Its a way to show theres indeed a pollice officer and no just someone on a fake uniform. I would tell charge the person doing such action like impersonating a police.
ReplyDeleteIn my perspective, the law should be a bit stricter than how it is now, on police uniforms being in the open to the public. The reason being is because nowadays, our society consists to have ignorant people out there taking life for granted and as a joke; they feel like it’s cool to impersonate a police to scare or just bother others, which is just too immature. Lastly, I think Luis Fumero or any other suspect that decides to impersonate a police officer should receive a 10 year sentence with parole and community service, as well.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree on what your saying and like you the society takes their for granted and also think their cool about impersonating an officer your right for all that. Giving Luis Fumero community service is like paying his dues back do the community.
DeleteI couldn't agree more, society as a whole cant help but waste their time being on the news and not in a good way. We need to stop being ignorant and start being more bold about what we do in our spare time. I also agree, with your community service.
DeleteYes, the law should get stricter because of the mischief these criminals commit. It’s preposterous how easy it is to get a hold of a police officer's uniform. The officers should earn them instead of buying the uniform themselves. The police uniforms should also have something to distinguish them from other original uniforms. As for Luis Fumero, he should get at least 12 years in prison with parole for impersonating an officer and the robberies he committed.
ReplyDeleteI agree, and if people really do still want to make police uniforms accessible to the public, not only should they be fake, but they should have huge differences from the original ones so people can tell right away.
DeleteThe uniforms used as costumes and the real officer's uniform look so identical that I don't blame others for not knowing the difference. If we would have stricter laws when it comes to public access to police uniforms, we wouldn't have to worry about not being able to tell them apart. However, civilians should know that we can ask to see the officer's badge to acknowledge that they are not impersonating and officer. Hence, I would charge Luis Fumero with criminal impersonation of an officer and armed robbery. His imprisonment would be minimum of five years or more without parole.
ReplyDeleteLourdes, I strongly agree with you, the uniforms must of been very identical that blinded people from realizing the reality. I disagrre with your sanction I believe Fumero deserved a harder punishment.
DeleteI agree with the uniforms having to be a way people can tell them apart. Also that people can ask to see the officer's badge. However, I don't agree with the sanction you would give Fumero.
DeleteIt is good that Fumero was arrested because who knows what he would of done next as a fake officer. I myself think that laws should be stricter on selling police officer costumes because if they don't people will continue to do these types of crimes. I think that individuals that commit these kinds of crimes should get at least 15 years in prison without parole. In Luis Fumaro's case I would give him 25 years with no parole because he robbed old people and immigrants.
ReplyDeleteI hardly agree you on the selling police officer costumes because can not tell either the office is real or acting. I disagree on the parole you gave Luis Fumaro I think you should of gave him with parole.
DeleteIn my perspective, I believe that laws should become stricter when it involves with an officer because they are protecting our world and should not involve our safety. In fact, the public should have no access to police uniforms at all. Nowadays, you can not tell if the policeman is either real or just acting and robbing innocent people. My reasonable sanction for Luis Fumero would be 12 years in prison with parole for impersonating an officer and the robberies he commited.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you Stephanie , because Police officers should have more laws or make there laws more strict for them. It's true, it's so hard for people to tell if a police officer is real or fake , I do agree with you on that too.
DeleteI agree with you that the public should not have any access to these uniforms what so ever because like you say, Stephanie, we cannot tell the difference between the real or fake. But if they ever do lend out these uniforms, the designers of these uniforms should at least put some kind of signature or identification on them so the public can tell the difference between them.
DeleteYes Stephanie, you saying that people shouldn't be able to get access to official police uniforms because we shouldn't be walking around being scared of people who are supposed to be protecting us. I also believe he should do community service to give back for the crimes he committed among the community
DeleteThe actions of Fumero are extremely shocking and also the fact that other police man did not recognize such fraud. I believe that police uniforms should have more to them in order for the public to not overpower them. Fumero's action have led him into harsh punishments, but not enough. I would of augmented the sanction to at least 20 years of prison because of all those innocent people that he took advantage of and for impersonating an officer.
ReplyDeleteI somewhat agree with what you just said ,Flor. I would do maximum 15 years in prison. Yes! those victims ,we don't know what type of economic condition they were to which I strongly believe he deserves what he gets if it as along time in prison. I believe uniforms should have some type of verification in order for such crimes like so to repeat again.
DeleteI know there has been many stories on how police officer uniforms have been duplicated . The law enforcement has been trying to buy all uniforms out there that look like officers . I do believe the law should be more highly strict on those who try to duplicate being officers . I wish they would of caught him sooner then they did . The judge should make an example out of him so those out there no this isn't a game . Fumero should be given 10 years with parole .
ReplyDeleteYes, I do believe laws should be stricter when it comes to police officer uniforms because of this exact situation. If police uniforms are going to be accessible to the public, there should be a huge difference from them and the real ones. So much of a difference that people can tell right away. I think a reasonable sanction for these individuals impersonating police officers would have to be at least 10 years without parole.
ReplyDeleteI do think that laws should be stricter. There should be a stricter laws against people or business selling police uniforms. By doing that people will think twice about selling the uniforms. Fumeroa should get at least 10 years for impersonating an officer and get years in community service.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with the community service part , because he needs to give back to the community of the people he harmed in the doing .
DeleteYes , I do believe that the law should be more strict when it's comes to the police uniforms . Only because Police uniforms are how every citizen knows if it is a police officer or not , other then the car and the badge . For impersonating a police officer I would give Mr. Fumero at least the minimum of 10 years and with parole .
ReplyDeleteI believe that police uniforms should not be made for people period and if they are at least the designers should change the color so other people can see the difference. So yes I agree that the law should get strict when it comes to the police uniforms. I would give him 25 years in prison or parole but he would also have to pay for all those people he stole from.
ReplyDeleteI believe that laws should be more strict on uniform organization. These uniforms should at least provide some kind of badge or identification on them. This is for our safety & protection. Otherwise, there can be criminals wearing these uniforms, and we would never know. The public should never have access to them, anyways. Also I do not think this punishment for Luis Fumero is necessary. Yes, he did do wrong for impersonating and robbery but I believe it is way too much for punishment. My scantion for Fumero would be 12-14 years in prison with Parole.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Zuleika, uniforms of police officers don't have to be available to the public. If someone needs it they have to have their badge or id with them. Also, i do believe he needs to be in prison for a while for the laws he broke but 30 sounds a little to much. As you stated 12-14 years sounds like a pretty good time for him to think of what he as done.
DeleteI think it should be way more difficult to have a police officer uniform in anyone's possession. The officers that wear these uniforms are supposed to help people not commit crimes with it. Wearing the uniform to do wrong with it is very disrespectful. My sanction for Fumero would be 15 years in prison without parole.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with your opinion on the police uniforms being difficult to get a hold of, but why 15 years without parole? I understand impersonating a police officer is a horrible crime to commit especially harming innocent people, but wouldn't you let Mr.Fumero time to think over what he has done, and consider giving him another chance, due to his age?
DeleteI believe the law should be stricter towards the uniform policy. There should be some type of new uniform enforcement and let the public know the difference or how to distinguish a real officer and an imposter, because anyone an easily disguise themselves as a police or so with the advantage of many new technology and ways on creating things due to modern technology . I believe the punishment for imposters like Fumero ,should be many years in prison for approximately 10 years . In my personal view I would give more than 10 years in prison to this man because of his victims. I’m currently talking about the immigrants to which were his victims; many people come to America for a new beginning and some give there everything to come here and have a better life and then all of a sudden be robbed by this man who took a short cut in life thinking he could possibly get away with it and thankfully he dint! I believe everyone’s way of living is how ever hard they work (you get what you work for) simple as that.
ReplyDeleteI believe laws should be strict when it comes to police uniforms. If the uniforms are really easy for the public to obtain, then lots of harm can be caused. There would be many more people impersonating police officers. I would give Luis Fumero a sanction of 15 years in jail without parole.
ReplyDeleteFrom my point of view I believe that the laws should be stricter for uniform policy. If you have a uniform any one can fall for it and that's dangerous. He deserves what he had for being a fraud. I would give him 7 years in jail without parole.
ReplyDeleteYes, i frankly believe that uniforms needs to be more strict to the public. This is something really dangerous like you stated for the fact anyone can get them now. the 7 years in prison sounds good for him for the actions he took. After them 7 years or so he would of already thought about his mistakes and what he did wrong.
DeleteI strongly believe the law should be more strict then ever when it comes to police uniform. There shouldn't be anyway a person who is not a police officer be able to get a hold of one. Yes, there's costumes of all sorts but the law can't wait for something worse to happen to stop selling false police costumes to the public. This has got to stop as soon as possible. I would give Luis Fumero a sanction of 18 years of prison without parole.
ReplyDeleteThat sanction is perfect for this hateful crime.I also agree with you when we reguard the police uniforms there should be a law not allowing any peolpe being able to purchase them.Halloween stores should have a permitt to sell fake ones just fake ones.
DeleteThe laws should get rid of the police uniforms from the public so impersonating could stop. The person who buys a uniform should not be able to wear in public so they can get illegal stuff from the civilians. If I was the judge he will get 9 years without parole in general.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the laws should be stricter regarding police uniforms being available for the public to own, and have in possession. Honestly police uniforms shouldn't be something just anyone can purchase, as you can see in this news event thr uniforms can go into the wrong hands, and be used for all the wrong reasons . This event should be an eye opener to the justice departments, to atleast try and make the uniforms hard for someone to get a hold of. As for the individual Luis Fumero, and any other individuals who commit such a crime should be sanctioned to 10 years with the possibility of parole for impersonating a police officer.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion police uniforms will always be accessible to the public. The public should just always be aware that any police force could be a victim of being impersonated at anytime. With that being said the public should be precautions while speaking or just even interacting with any uninformed man. The sanctions should be stricter for those individuals who commit this crime than other criminals. Doing so could potentially prevent other criminals from committing the same crime because of their severe consequences they could face.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the sanctions should be more stricter. He needs to learn his lesson so he won't do it again. Having stricter sanctions would make people who try to impersonate a police officer think twice before committing the crime.
DeleteI agree with Valerie the people who impersonate police officers should be serving more time than people who have lesser offenses.
DeleteWow, I actually can't believe this. I really think the law should be more stricter on sailing police officer uniforms to public; simply because many people can do the same as that individual Luis Fumero did or worse things. Luis Fumero should be sanctioned for at least 15 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
ReplyDeletePolice uniforms should not be at the reach of the public. Laws should be stricter to those who impersonate a police officer. If police uniforms were not in the reach of the public then we wouldn't not be having problems like this. The sanction should be stricter to those who chose to impersonate a police official. Giving people ,who have chosen to impersonate a police officer, more time in jail for this crime should be done. They should learn thier lesson and set an example for other people who may try to commit the same crime later on in the future.
ReplyDeleteI definitely believe that laws should be stricter on how available police uniforms are to the public. Someone who can just put on the uniform and impersonate a cop puts many civilians and the police offiers themselves in a lot of danger. I also believe that there should be like a special patch or verification code on these uniforms. It makes me angry to think of how Luis Fumero took advantage of the elderly and the immigrants. He should be sanctioned to 10 to 15 years without parole.
ReplyDeleteIts very wrong what he did, and it infuriates me as well. Those old people didn't know what was coming to them! He will get his though, what goes around comes around. I just hope he grows and matures as a person, and learns from his mistakes.
DeleteI think that that laws should be stricter when it comes to police uniforms. That uniform identifies one as beign an officer and that shouldn't be available to anybody.I agree with the the charges.
ReplyDeleteThey should more stricter on the uniforms to be sold in public so people can abuse authority like in this case.
DeletePolice officers uniform should not be available to anyone but a police officer. Therefor i agree the laws should be more strict on police uniforms. Also, i agree with the sanction that the suspect received.
DeleteI think police uniforms should be all manufactured through one company,so no one else can order uniforms under false pretense. Impersonating a police officer gives the public more fear of being pulled over and not knowing if your life would be in danger. These impersonator's should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
ReplyDeleteThey should punish impersonators as they do identity theft to them by the police press charges.
DeleteThe thought of an impersonating phony police officer is scary. People look at an officer, and see a hero. Unknowingly they get robbed? Its pathetic and disrespectful. I have no sympathy for someone fake like that, and believe he should be in there for a good while. 30 years and no less. It is way too easy to pull something off like that. You can just hop on the internet and order a uniform, that's not right. You should be able to tell if its a costume or not, and there should be more restrictions on that.
ReplyDeleteI believe that laws should be stricter ,because some people can be easily taken advantage of. Like the elderly there vision may be impaired making it harder for them to detect the fraud police officer. As for the sanctions i feel they should be equivalent to those of identity theft.Because the damage that can be done is similar to identity theft and you are impersonating someone you are not.
ReplyDeleteI honestly think every police officer should have the exact same uniform nation wide. Mainly because all the different types of uniforms could set confusion to who is really a police officer or not. Also they could make a distinct badge for officers to wear. This is a very serious problem because it could be dangerous to civilians. I am in shock that this happened in 2013. I think he should do jail & any extra punishment possible to give for his actions.
ReplyDeleteI think that laws should be stricter on the uniforms. Only the police officers should wear the uniforms. People should not have access to the uniforms but the officers. Peoples lives can be in danger if anyone is impersonating a police officers. And for Luis Fumero, all charges would be the same and I'll give him 5-10 years in prison without parole.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you saying people could be hurt in many ways, they might go around with their lives while being scared of someone that is supposed to protect them. He should be charged with identity theft for being someone he isn't.
DeleteLaws need on police uniforms need to be made stricter. Only police officers are the people that need to access to that type of uniform.
Deletei believe a person even thinking of putting on the uniform and robing the innocent and venerable is wrong and impersonation of a police officer is also wrong. people should be running to police officers not running from them. people like luis deserves 35 years and it sounds harsh but hes making a bad name for officers making people lose trust in officers. the laws needs to more strict about the purchasing of police uniforms and i don't believe police cars should be auctioned at all because that makes it so much easier for people like luis to impersonate an officer.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. The law should be stricter when it comes to police uniforms. Like you said, now in days it is so easy for someone to get a hold of the uniforms and badges . I believe a reasonable sanctions and actions should be given to Luis Fumero would be at least 10 years. You just can't impersonate an officer in the commission of any crime and think your going to get away with it. Mr.Fumero was a weakling for doing what he to the elderly when he robbed them and to the illegal immigrants. The law should be strong to keep others from thinking and trying to use Police uniforms when they are attempting to do harm , wrong and abuse to others such as the elderly and immigrants .
ReplyDeleteI believe that police uniforms should be updated every 2years or so. It shouldn't be that easy for a individual to impersonate a police officer. Fumero should be sevearly punished for impersonating a personof the law. In my opinion Luis deserves 20 years in prison.
ReplyDeleteThe update of uniforms idea sounds good, but also really expensive. To provide every officer in the country the same uniform, it just sounds like a difficult time and financial disaster. I agree with your sentence for him though, he deserves to be in prison for a good while.
Deletei really agree i think that police officers uniforms have been the same for a really long time. They need to update them or make the real uniforms impossible for people to get there hands on.There would be less people inpersonating cops.
DeleteNo, I strongly disagree that the law shouldn't be stricter on Luis Fumero. 30 years is a little to much for him. Yes, i frankly believe he did wrong but not to face 30 years. They should be more strict of selling or having available police uniforms to the public. While i was reading this i was very surprised they didn't caught him earlier.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion police uniforms should not be accessible to the public. The laws should get stricter because it just shows that anyone can get a hold of a uniform so easily and wear it to scam people. The uniform should have some sort of authentic marking to show that it is not a fake. What Luis Fumero did was unethical and wrong. It’s also kind of strange how the police did not find out about this sooner. I think Luis should get about 30 to 50 years with parole for impersonating an officer in such a horrible way.
ReplyDeleteYes he did something horrible, but 30 to 50 years is to long for his crimes. Police uniforms should not be sold the public.
DeleteThey should make the laws on the accessibility of police uniforms stricter. There has been so many incidents on with someone impersonating a officer. There should be a easy way of identify a officer. Officers should alter their uniforms to have some form of patch on it to make it easier for the public to know who is legit and who is an impersonator. Luis should get 20 years with a chance of parole.
ReplyDeleteI believe that police uniforms should not be accessible to the public by any means, there is no reason for anyone other than a person of law enforcement to own an official police uniform. The reason for this is due to the fact that like in this case that one might impersonate an officer and or the public would be skeptical about trusting anyone in an officers uniform. The proper sanction of an impersonator of a police officer should be around 10 to 15 years with parole.
ReplyDeleteyes, I strongly agree that the law should be more strict on the sell of police and fake police officer uniforms. It is very easy for people to go into a Halloween store and buy a uniform with all the equipment as a police officer. So i think that there should be a law making it illegal to purchase officer uniforms and equipment. So that this hateful crime from ever being commited. For the luis fumero he really needs to stay in prison for a really long time for what he has done.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the police should be strict regarding to police uniforms. because then anybody can wear a police uniform and never know what they will do or can do.
ReplyDeleteA reasonable punishment would be the same as the ones from fraud.
