RE: Elishua Williams week twelve: February 7-9, 2014.

Hello everyone,
Welcome to week twelve of the blog. I have an interesting incident involving a hire for murder plot which did not go as initially planned.

An Iowa woman has been sentenced to more than 7 years in prison for using a Craigslist help-wanted ad to solicit someone to kill her father. U.S. District Judge Linda Reade gave the 87-month prison term Wednesday to 23-year-old Megan Schmidt of Dubuque. Schmidt pleaded guilty in November to using interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder for hire. In a plea agreement, Schmidt admitted that she posted Craigslist ads seeking someone to do a "one-time job" for $10,000. She later told one man who responded that she wanted her father dead and that it would be best to "either shoot or stab him because he is a bigger man." That man contacted authorities. The Dubuque County Sheriff's Office then conducted an undercover operation that led to Schmidt's arrest.

1. Do you feel the internet can lead to more crimes and malicious acts such as these or do you feel the internet is safe and people will do as the man in this case and alert authorities before any citizens will be harmed, injured, or in worse case scenarios, dead?
2. What are some additional methods that can be promoted in order to make the internet a safer environment for its users?

  1. Yes, I do believe that the internet can lead to more crimes and malicious acts because you never know what type of people are lurking on the internet. What if she would’ve sent that message to some type of serial killer rapist? He would’ve killed her father, raped her, and took the money. If you ask me she is a sick person herself for even asking a person to kill her father. There are children in this world who wish they could talk to or even hug there father and she wants hers killed. Nothing he did could’ve been that bad that she is willing to go to prison and give up her life for his murder.

    1. I highly agree with you, Shawnise. People these days can be very sickened to the head and do crucial things to others, especially their own family members. Some children are ignorant, selfish and they feel that their parents should be out of this world, in some cases.

    2. Also I believe that the government should regulate the internet as they when it involves drug trafficking.

    3. I agree with you because people these days they think for worst for others. They had an evil spirit in their heart to do bad against others

    4. Indeed, she’s being completely selfish by sending someone to kill her own father without any remorse. I also agree that the government should regulate the internet because there are a lot of a sick people in this world.

    5. I highly agree with you, like you stated these people are selfish and above all ignorant. Not many people can say they know whom there father is and for this woman to plan to kill her own father is just plain sad. This woman deserves a lot more than a seven year sentence, the judge should have added psychological help.

    6. I agree with all of you guys . Alot of people can be very harmful over those that are family . She deserves more time in jail due to what she try to do to her father . What if the man would have gone thru with her request . It's a shame how that wouldn't have bothered her .

      Delete
    7. I completely agree with you; what the woman did to her father was low and unacceptable. She shouldn't have done that to her father, besides she doesn't even know if the person who could "completed" her request could also harm her as well for the money since they're complete strangers. Pretty reckless act of crime on the internet.

    8. I strongly agree with you Shawnise. We never no the type of people that are lurking the web. They could be actual criminals. I agree she is a sick person for wanting her father killed. Many children wish to have fathers in their life and she wants her father dead? She needs more than just some prison time, she needs help.

    9. i agree with you, her father could have done nothing that serious so that she would want to kill him. Your right there are many young girls out there who would want to hug and kiss there father she is sick to just want to kill him.

  2. In this case, I feel that the internet can lead to more crimes and malicious acts such as these and the internet is safe. People may do as the man in this case and alert authorities before any citizens will be harmed, injured, or in worst case scenarios, dead. The reason why the internet can lead to more crimes is because people spend most of their quality time, surfing the web and looking for trouble. Then, there are some helpful citizens that will try to be a hero and try to stop the crime. The internet should be a little stricter than what it is today. If anyone decides that they want to post a blog or anything on the internet, they should get permission from the actual boss that is head of the internet.

    1. I agree with you I do think that people spend most of their time on the internet looking for trouble.in this generation people have too much free time on their hands and a constant thirst for vengeance so they are mainly on the internet looking for ways to get even with someone that they feel has wrong them. The government is so busy worrying arguing with each other that they are overlooking the real issues in the world.

    2. I agree with you, Andrea. People in this generation have too much free time on their hands and they spend it on the internet looking for trouble. I think that getting permission to blog would upset people, but it would be help everyone.

    4. I fully agree with you Andrea the internet can lead to more crimes and malicious acts. Yes the internet does lead to bad things and some people may use it for the wrong purpose. Therefore with citizens such as the man it may turn out safe.

    5. I agree with you Cruz, the internet is crazy also can lead to more crimes. The internet also leads to bad things and can get in the hands of the wrong people. Like I said in my post we need to see if we can get proof readers to read all of this stuff. Therefore if they see something wrong they can handle it firsthand.

    6. I agree with you also Andrea! People do spend way too much time on the internet. Some people might even be addicted. Social networks need to start looking over the type of post people post daily.

    7. I agree with you Andrea. People do surf the internet looking for trouble and once trouble is found some may acknowledge it and alert authorities. While others will actually be apart of the crime. I also agree that before a post is posted it should go through the administration of the website for safetly issues.

    8. I agree with you Andrea. There is many kinds of people that go through the internet all the times, which does make many more bad crimes.

    9. I totally agree that it's not a bad thing for young children to know how to use technology such as computers and phones. Of coarse I do believe that small children shouldn't really be all into social media such as Facebook , twitter , Instagram etc. Though I do agree children should be well aware of how to make phone calls especially on how to dial 911.

  3. I do feel that the internet leads to the exposure of crimes and that it makes people want to act out those crimes. I believe that with the media covering these stories, it will make people want to act out in that manner. It can also be helpful just like in this case with the man alerting the authorities. The internet is beneficial, but it also has its downsides, too. People can post whatever they want without any consequences think the internet should have stricter policies, such as, permission to post on blogging in order to make the internet a better place.

    1. I disagree that the internet is leading people to act out the crimes they see. I believe that most people on the internet are not people that would act out these crimes, especially the worst ones. I think that people would usually just alert the authorities if they see something that is illegal, and others will just ignore it.

      Delete
    2. I disagree with you; I don’t believe that stricter policies will decrease the amount of malicious acts that are formed on the internet. People will always find a way to get around those rules and then we're left with the same issue we started with. In my opinion the government should come together and decide on a plan of action.

      Delete
    3. I also disagree. Society gets around so many laws there’s no way that anyone can be prevented from using the internet. The internet is also used to make money and companies will not allow for it to be taken and used only at certain times. There’s so many other ways to prevent these types of incidents. We could block certain types of website or maybe even have to get permission to make certain types of websites. Social websites should also be kept an eye on also in order to protect everyone.

      Delete
    4. I also disagree. I don't think the stricter policies will do anything. If someone really wanted to commit a malicious act, they would do anything and everything they could to get around the policies.

      Delete
    5. I'm sorry, but I also disagree with you Jose. What will the stricter policies do, besides upset many people? It surely won't decrease the mailcious acts. Like Shawnise stated, "People will always find a way to get around these rules and get on the internet..." so therefore the stricter policies are irrelevant.

    6. I have to agree the policy with with stricter Internet rules would definitely help out with crime. We need alot more rules on the Internet there is a lot if crime coming from the Internet. So yes I agree with jose and yes people would be upset with the rules but there still using the Internet so a couple more rules wouldn't bother the users

    7. Yea I agree with you but yet there still going to do those crimes. Simply because dont they put crimes such as murder on the news and people still kill.

  4. I feel that the internet has the possibility to lead to crimes, but it is a small possibility. I feel that the internet is mostly composed of people who would do the same as the man and alert the authorities. Some additional methods that can be promoted would be to have people constantly reading that posts that are made on websites that are for people looking for work. They would look at the posts and if it seems suspicious to them, they can temporarily block the post and ask the person that posted it about it to see if it is legitimate. Hiring people to read the posts would cost a lot of money, but it could save lives.

    2. I agree with you Alex the internet can possibly lead to crimes, but the chances are small. Although you must think that the internet is not only for the United States but the entire world uses it. So if you have multiple internet cases which involve a crime such as this one the chances of crime are extremely high.

    3. I agree with you Alex. There are people that won’t contact the authorities to turn them in. But what if the wrong person saw it they would have token the offer and someone would have been dead or harmed. That exactly why I agree with you Alex .Also the internet can lead to more crimes. The internet is used more than by the U.S. I agree with E-dub also on that.

  6. Yes, I do believe that the internet can lead to more crimes and malicious acts. There are only a couple of good people who will alert authorities about crimes like this young man did. If it was another man who she had asked then maybe he would have done the job without any hesitation. The internet should be regulated by the government to prevent any harm that can put any citizen in a horrible position because most people look for trouble in the wrong places.

    1. I strongly agree with you Ana Arana, because not everyone will alert the authorities about a crime like this. There would be one that will take the job. Do to that some will need the money or another reason. I also agree with you about the government should regulate the internet to prevent crimes like this from happening.

    2. I agree with you, Ana because what if the man that informed the authorities needed money and had done the crime without hesitation to get the reward. Thanks to this brave man her father is now alive and she is now where she belongs in prison. Yes, the government should regularly check public websites of any mysterious acts maybe these crimes would decrease if it was fully investigated.

      Delete
    3. I agree with you Ana, not all individuals will report crimes over the internet. The internet has created a new way for criminals to create more victims. The government should regulate the internet to decrease the crime in our nation. In the case of Schmidt's father, he was fortunate to be saved by a good individual.

    4. I agree with the suggestion that the government should be affiliated more with the security of people regarding the internet. If they already want to be big brother and have access to everything, than they they should be help responsible when crimes such as these occur as well.

    5. I agree with you. People are becoming more non hesitant with their decision on doing crimes and now it's "easier" to work with crime on the internet . The government should always watch the internet and postings.

    1. I agree the government needs to step up when it comes to the Internet. To many deaths or crimes are committed on the web that's not likely to happen if the government had control of the Internet. The government just needs to set up more protection on the web for the users or watch out for Adds that don't add up or look suspicious.

  8. In this case I feel that the government should patrol the internet. I see a lot of stuff going on the internet that people shouldn’t be doing like drugs, exposing other girls and boys. Sometimes the internets do a lot of undercover things that we don’t even know about. There are a lot of sick people in the world who are looking for trouble and nothing less than that. People would do any and everything to harm others. If the wrong Person saw that post they probably would have token the 10,000 to kill her dad. People don’t care about their life anymore. The internet could be safer if the police or someone kept an eye out on the internet and this instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and etc. The internet can lead up to more crimes and malicious acts. There are a couple of good semeritains .But at the same time it can come across the wrong hands and the y will do what they got to do. We don’t have a lot of good people in this world ,but we just need to keep an eye out on the people that are trying to harm others ,and the entire world use the internet. Not just the U.S. But if we don’t keep an eye out there would be more and more under cover crimes we don’t know about. Maybe if we hire some people to proof read some things it’ll be better. The CEO of these internet sources like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, craigslist, ebay, and etc. We just need to keep an eye out on the internet like a internet cop or something

  9. I believe the internet can never be trusted. Especially if it is used to plan a crime, the evidence will stay forever and could be found. It’s not safe at all for anyone but it’s still used every day. In my opinion, it can never be completely safe. There are plenty of murder victims that were a result of internet violence. However, there may be some ways to prevent these types of incidents. The internet should be revised on certain types of social websites. If there are some types of suspicious act it should be acted upon quickly to prevent and damage. All that we need to do is to pay a bit more close attention to these types of acts.

    2. Honestly I don't know how leaving behind evidence can be bad. This only helps build a case against the criminal. But I do agree with you that we need better internet protection. But your solution to this doesn't quite make sense to me. I think there should be a special squad that deals with internet crimes only. That way it be easier and more efficient to deal with things of this type. Instead of having cops who already have enough in there hands do it.

There are always things happening on the internet that authorities don't know about until it is too late. If internet users see suspicious activity they should report it to officers and overall, officers need to have some way to secure the internet.

  11. I feel that the internet can lead to more crimes and malicious acts but I also feel we have citizens in America who would do the right thing and alert authorities. The internet has to be watched over by the government no matter what the cause may be. Not only do people go on websites asking other people to kill for them but there is also cyber-bulling. This is not the first time a person has done this crime and all of it needs to be stopped. In order to make the internet a safer environment there should be something that tells the user that they are not able to post inappropriate things on the internet, such as videos, pictures, and comments. 13. I think that the internet can be dangerous, but it can also be helpful. I say this because nowadays many criminals post crimes they did or are going to do on social media. This post then alerts the public, who in turn notify the authorities, as for influencing an increase in crimes… I’m not sure, because the internet can influence anyone, but I would say that the way it influence someone depends on the person. If the person doesn’t have the right morals or doesn’t know right from wrong, then yes it can possibly influence them to do bad things. Furthermore, I think that in order to make the internet a safer environment for users there should some sort of database security that look at anything that is bad, suspicious, or crime related.

    1. Juanita Flores I couldn’t agree with you more. The Internet is helpful but only for news and educational facts that we as students really need. These individuals commit malicious acts over the internet and many innocent people are affected every day. For starter's she most likely disagreed with something he said or maybe they may have gotten into a fight prior to the incident. Or maybe she was did not have anything better to do? Also, in my opinion we as society should leave the bad things behind and bring out the good.

    1. You're right about the internet can being beneficial in helping catch criminals in their acts. Social media knows no limits to people's personal lives and will let just about anybody what they're up to. That could help law enforcement and hinder the individuals possible committing the crimes.

  19. The internet is resourceful in so many ways, but there is always that possibility that people will turn it into something for the worse. Crimes like this will continue to occur only is society lets them. The well being of our community typically lies in our own hands and the initiative to contact authorities when necessary. I can't think of any specific methods to attempt to prevent events like this from happening other than just be more aware of what you're about to endeavor in once you enter the cyber world. Be informative.

  20. Yes, I believe the internet can lead to more crimes and malicious act such as this case because now a day’s internet isn’t safe either. However, not everyone will do the right thing like the man did who he reported to the authorities. The government should watch the internet and see what others civilians post because we want a safe environment. Some additional method that can be promoted in order to make the internet a safer environment for its users is to tell the user who posts inappropriate things for them not to post on the website because is not right to do those things. Yet, we the civilians if we see something posted we should immediately contact the authorities and not wait for someone else do it.

    1. I agree, there are people that do not react to inappropriate material on the internet. Instead, they find it funny and just move on. The man who actually alerted the authorities was a good civilian. Many people claim to be minding their own business, but they should stick up for someone that is about to get hurt. If there are people just like this man then it might reduce crime on the internet.

  21. The internet can never be trusted. We use it every day without realizing all the danger behind it. The internet can be useful, but there are always people that use it to harm others. It does lead to an easier access to communicate and plan crimes. There should be more government supervision on what is put up on the internet. The government should let the people be aware about these conflicts and promote the right choice people should take.

    1. I agree, the internet can be a very dangerous source. When we communicate with other people on websites such as Facebook, only the two users can view the messages. This prevents others from viewing the inappropriate conversations that people have. Only if one of them decides to do the right thing and alert the authorities that’s when they can be helped.

  22. The internet can be beneficial to many citizens, but it can be in a good way or in a bad way. There are many people that misuse the internet. These people can use it to hurt someone emotionally and could potentially harm them physically. There are people that search for simple recipes to bake a cake and then there are people that search for how to poison someone else. I personally think that the problem is the person’s mindset of why they log into the internet. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done to prevent these crimes because we cannot control the perpetrators malicious mind.

    2. I agree with everything you have just said , Kimberly. The internet’s meant to help people and many take the advantage to a different level and commit crime such as the one we were told right now. In my point of view like I said before there really isn't much we can do to prevent things like that from happening. We can help by perhaps putting up adds saying to report anything unusual that might lead to a crime or so and then perhaps less crimes will be committed.

  23. In my perspective I do believe that the internet can lead to more crimes and malicious acts. Some people may do as the man did in this case did and alerted the authorities but in other cases there could be someone who sees the amount of money and will actually commit the crime. The internet should be regulated properly so these crimes that are being committed online will no one continue. It should be revised so it will help guarantee safety and from any wrong doing to those who use it.

Like in this case when the man instead of actually doing the crime he prevented it. However yes the internet can be used for many wrong reasons if this man had not been on the right side this crime would have actually taken place. We cant really do much about these types of crimes because we never know if its the good or bad guy on the other end of the deal, for example this case in iowa.

  26. Yes the internet can cause a huge amount of malicious acts and crimes. The internet is nothing but madness anything can be done in the internet and can’t be taken back. The internet is certainly not safe it can easily hurt anyone who would be a primary target. First we had bullying now it’s leading to a whole new chapter, authorities can do so much to keep the internet safe from sick twisted people. As much as people want the authorities to step in and help out they can do so little due to the fact that they also have to worry about hacker and modifiers. The only way that I see the internet being a safer place is if the authorities start working out things with other hackers and modifiers to team up and take down these foolish acts taking place on the internet.

  27. Well of course the internet will lead to so much crimes because people are to comfortable knowing that they are safe in a different location, so they just keep scrolling through social websites and sharing their private information to meet new people. Unfortunately, they are not safe, there are many criminals looking in those websites to find the people's locations to commit crimes on them. Now what I think the government should do to this problem is make a machine that track computers that breaks the system's firewall that prevents people from hacking through other people's profiles, and what the people should do for their safety is to have two profiles, one with your real information for your friends and family members, and another one with false information like (street addresses, phone number, etc.) for complete strangers. The reason why you should make a false account because there are some criminal hackers in this society who can hack into your profile to see your information and find you.So be aware of who you talk to on the internet.

  28. Yes, I personally think that the internet can lead crimes such as the one you have spoken but there’s people in the world who do the right thing like the man who reported what he saw. So it all depends on who it is remember in this world we have both good and evil again it all depends on the morals of the person. Perhaps we should have internet based police men / detectives , to keep an eye in what happens and check constantly to see if anything is going on . There’s not much one can do when it comes to internet users and what the content is it all depends on the people and wait for someone to speak up.

Don't forget you also have people pretending to be younger and lure kids in to do bad stuff. 37. Well the internet can be both safe and dangerous. I think it all depends on the person that either decides if they want to do these types of crimes. On certain websites, like Craigslist, you find these types of crime ads because the person can edit the ad all they want in order to make it look innocent. Not all people are like that though but some will actually give into the ad for that amount of money. The internet can be such a trap for people because they can’t really see what is going on the other side of the other user’s screen. No one really knows what they’re getting their selves into. The internet doesn’t really have many restrictions and if it gets blocked then someone will be smart enough to unblock it. So, I don’t really think there can be any methods to actually make the internet safer.

Also I do believe that if there were more people like the one from the passage then it could stop a percentage of internet crimes. If we want the internet to be safe from these kinds of malicious acts then the internet should be constantly checked especially on website like Craigslist, and eBay so that it can put a stop to these kinds of posts.

  47. I frankly believe that the internet can lead to more crimes and malicious acts such as these and the internet is safe.

I am positive that the internet does lead and will lead to malicious crimes in the future. So many people are showing off things such as money, cars, luxury things that lead to other people wanting to steal from them. Also many girls are exposing themselves by posting pictures of them in very few clothes or sometimes even naked which can lead to a lot of rapist or pervs trying to come in contact with them which later can lead to rapes.

  57. I do believe that the internet is a cause of malicious and criminal acts because you never know what kind of people are out there trying to make a quick buck they'll literally do anything for money

There are cautions that should be taken to prevent stuff like this like we should have people search the internet for that kind of stuff like hiring a hit man to kill their father or father in law

    1. I agree with you Oscar the government should have people on most visited websited to see what they post such as like people saying they want to kill there father kind of stuff.

    2. I agree with you Oscar. The government should hire special people to look over these websites like Craigslist. They should go over the ads people post like, for example, Megan Schmidt. People will go to any extent to get what they want. Plus, people who desperately need the money will easily accept a proposition of 10,000 dollars to kill someone's own father.

  58. 1. I believe that Megan Schmidt should be ashamed of what she on the internet because not only is that embarrassing to her family but also to her father because she tried to kill him. I think that she should also get some type of therapy to help her out mentally. The reason being is because I think there is something wrong with you if you are posting ads to kill her father and pay 10,000 to do it.
    2. Other things that we can do differently to make the internet safer is to have have the government hire people to watch suspicious ads or just watch for what people post on the internet.

  59. 1. In my opinion the internet has its benefits but at the same time can lead to more crime. Like Megan Schmidt when she put ads to kill her father. People will use the internet how they want because they think nobody can stop them.
    2. There can be safer ways to make the internet a safe environment to go on. The government can make it harder for everybody and anybody that wants to make a website. So that the people that have records can’t make a website. They should crack down on the bad websites that are already up.

  60. I do think that the internet cannot be trusted and that parents should be more cautious of to where their children are lurking they have to be more careful as to what websites they can go on , There has been a lot of crimes due to the internet . The government should make the websites 18 and older so only adults can go on some certain websites, So that it’ll be safer in some occasions.

    1. I agree with you Angelica. If the parents are aware of what the kid are doing the kids will at least think about doing something wrong on the internet twice, because they know they are being supervised. If the government makes the adult websites 18 and older the crimes happening on the internet will go down in my opinion, because most crimes happen to 16 or 15 year old kids.

  61. 1. The use of the Internet ultimately depends on the people and their judgment. Luckily, the man who got an e-mail from Megan Schmidt had good judgment and contacted the police. The Internet can, unfortunately, cause more crimes. Schmidt was offering 10,000 dollars to kill her own father! Anyone desperate enough could have easily accepted the job and money. Fortunately in this milieu, no none was hurt.
    2. I believe it all falls in the hands of the government. Craigslist is already a website known for frauds, theft, etc. There should be a government official or something keeping their eyes on these sorts of websites and constantly check the ads and propositions people is posting here.

  62. In my opinion I believe the internet is very harmful. That is because people tend to create fake profiles and insert fake information. I think people tend to create more crimes over the internet because they feel safer do to anonymous information.

    1. I agree with you Jackie the internet is very harmful. I also agree how that can make more crimes and the government should make it safer to use.

    2. Yes Jackie I agree with you 100%. People do make fake internet profiles to commit crimes like, messaging other people pretending to be someone else. They lie about who they realy are and they get information from other people just to try and do something wrong to them.

  63. I believe the internet can lead to more crimes to happen. Also, what Megan Schmidt did was wrong to put it on the internet ads to kill her father. The reason why is because you never know who is looking around the internet and what kind of people they are it can be a rapist and other kinds of terrifying people.
There is other better safer way to make the internet a safer .For, example the government can hire people who can watch the websites if there is anything wrong going on, but people will always find a way to do things secretly.

    1. I agree with you Yessica. All sorts of people with different minds use the Internet every day. Their intentions are unknown. We have to be very careful with the kind of people we talk to in the cyber world. I agree that the government should have a special department to look over certain websites such as Craigslist.

    2. I honestly think young children now a days are really into technology. Therefore they are more familiar with 911. Parents should be responsible to teach them that at an early age either way. It's unbelievable what the young boy did and the proper way to approach it. Three year olds' shouldn't really be eating just anything without adult supervision because it can easily take away someone's life. We all need to learn how to be careful with our children and teach them safety procedures and how to approach them. I'm very astonished and proud of the young boy for saving his little sister's life.

    1. I agree with you a little bit. Like if it's a criminal, he's gonna break the rules regardless if it is over the internet on not. The internet does give him an extra push though to meet other criminals, and become friends.

  65. Yes, I believe that the internet has promoted the crime rate. Many people are able to commit all kinds of crime through the internet and social media. Depending on what the case is about also depends if the person will report the criminal activity or not. For example, if the person feels threaten or just doesn’t want to get involved they will just leave it alone. However there are some people out there that report criminal activities no matter what. There are many ways to make the internet a save environment however it’ll make criminals seek for other ways to act on their criminal activity. I believe people should just be more cautious while being on the internet or social media.

    1. I agree with you 100% Kharim, there is too much freedom on the internet! People can do and post legal and illegal activities on there being careless. Social media is a sneaky way to set up some illegal activity.

  66. 1. I believe that the internet has way too much freedom to certain things. Websites such as Craigslist and Facebook have increased crime rates drastically because there are so many ways to communicate through there personally. You can meet so many differnet people on social media, strangers that you don't know what they are capable of. Criminal or not you don't know, because you are talking to them behind a computer screen.
2.Some ways to make the internet safer is to limit certain things. Use parental control, and block it. Take the whole category on Craigslist to meet new people off, it's ridiculous.

    1. I agree with you Jazmin, it is way too easy to communicate with people now a days. Parental control would be a good idea or for the parents to check their children's social networks.

  67. Yea right! Internet can lead to more crimes because most of the people in our society today do not care about the consequences. People feel like they can get away with anything they do online. Most of them think it is the smartest way to commit a crime but in reality it’s not. Who ever made the website can be the ones who read and allow whatever it is that is being post. If that person feel like it’s too much work then they shouldn’t have made a website.

    1. I agree with you Cyntera people in our society are crazy and don’t think about their actions. Also the person shouldn't make a website if they can't handle it because it puts other people in danger.

  68. 1.) I believe that the internet can lead to more crimes because it is really easy to contact people and get personal information from them. Also people can lie about their identity and you never know what they are capable of.
2.) I think that in order for the internet to be safer, people should not post personal things in their bio or page. But if that doesn’t work than the government should control all websites.

  69. Is a known fact that the internet isn't safe. Many crimes are commited via the internet. I think the goverment is doing a good job to stop crime on the web. We can also teach people about the dangers of using the internet. Eather way there will still be crime online.

  70. I believe that the internet shouldn’t be blamed for what people decide to do with the resources available. The guy in this case did good on advising the authorities about what the women was attempting to do, but the fact that the women decided to use the internet to find somebody to get hired to commit a murder doesn’t mean that the internet is to be blamed for. The person should be and is the one being held responsible through it all. Just as guns, guns don’t kill people but the people kill each other!

  71. I agree with the fact that the internet isn't safe. There's many people that hide behind a computer and pose as someone else. Megan Schmidt was wrong for the action she committed, but the fact remains that there's other people who continue to do things like this. The government should have people who try and stop these poeple from committing these actions

  72. In this case, I feel that the internet can lead to more crimes and malicious acts such as these and the internet is safe. People may do as the man in this case and alert authorities before any citizens will be harmed, injured, or in worst case scenarios, dead. Who ever made the website can be the ones who read and allow whatever it is that is being post. If that person feel like it’s too much work then they shouldn’t have made a website. Most of them think it is the smartest way to commit a crime but in reality it’s not.

  73. Other ways the internet can be safer for its users is by monitoring certain word that can be used to trigger off a system. Just like they do it now for terrorism they can also do the same for kidnapping murders and any other massive criminal cases that may harm anybody’s life. The internet can be monitored in so many ways possible to prevent this but the person with the ideas of hurting another human will not be stop just by monitoring the internet.

  74. I do believe that the internet has promoted crime to increase. Unfortunately not a lot of people would have done what this man did to call the police. They would have just done the crime and taken the money some people will do anything for money. Ways to make sure that this crime stop is to inform the police like this man. Also the can shut down the account of the person who is putting out this information.
