Re: Gio Lopez; week one 2014-2015 School Year.

Greetings everyone,

Welcome to week one!!!! Please read below and note your perspective (one main response and two responses to your peers).

In Roanoke, Virginia a 2 year old girl was pronounced dead on Sunday. Authorities say they received a call about a little girl who was unresponsive. Authorities say the car that the girl was in was parked at a residence and that temperatures reached 90 degrees that day. As of now, the investigation is pending and authorities aren't sure what the cause of death was, or if the girl was left in the car accidentally.

Do you believe that the parents left her in the car accidentally or intentionally?

Would you charge the parents? Why or why not?

  1. Yes, I believe that it was intentionally. You don't accidentally leave your kid in a car, when it's hot. Yes, I believe that the parent should be charge, because she needs to be more responsible , her not being responsible led to a little kid being dead. By simonsavala

    1. I agree with you that the parents should’ve been more responsible with their child. Their decision to not take proper care of the child caused her, her life. Something that is not acceptable to do. I just do not understand how such irresponsible people could be parents! I am sure that they new that leaving their daughter inside of a car during high tempetures or anytime would be a bad idea. I just do not understand why they left her there by herself.

    2. I agree with you, Simon. You can't just leave a child in a vehicle in horrible weather conditions therefore I also believe it was intentionally. Also, the parents should be charged because of their irresponsibility.

    3. I strongly agree with you because that's true how do you "forget" your kid in the car!!!!! It was really hot ugh people are so irresponsible.

    4. I disagree with you. If they wanted their child to die they would have done it a while ago. But I believe they should be charged for illegally leaving a toddler in a vehicle.

    5. Yes Simon, I agree with you. Parents don't just forget their kid alone in the car, definitely in a hot weather.

    6. I agree with you as well Simon. In those type of weather conditions the parents should have extra vigilant of their child's care that is why I believe it was no accident the child was left alone. I am also on board with the parents being charged, anyone capable of doing such a thing to a child should face the consequences.

    7. I strongly agree with you Simon. Children should never be left in the car unattended especially in that weather. The guardian of the little girl most likely left her intentionally. There is no explanation for such act, and a 20 year sanction with parole should be enforced.

  2. It seems to me that if the parents are old enough to have a child then they are old enough to understand that by putting their young daughter in that situation could, and did, lead to her death. This is why I am inclined to say, that what happened to the little girl was not an accident, but a bad decision made by her parents. I believe that they should be punished by putting them in prison where they can spent the rest of their lives regretting what they did.

    1. I agree with you, Juanita. I also believe that if they had enough mind to have a child then they should also have the right mind to take care of it and be responsible. I also believe this wasn't an accident but a decision the parents chose to do. I would also punish them with life in prison.

    2. I strongly agree with you. Parents should know great responsibility is required to take care of a child. No one would "accidentally" leave their kid in a car on a hot and sunny day. I also agree that they should be taken to prison for what they did. They should think harder of what a bad decision led to.

    3. I strongly agree with Juanita that if the parents are old enough to have a child they should know what may happen to their child. They obviously took that risk at putting her in danger at a 90 degree heat. I also strongly agree with her that they should be put in prison for what they did a charge isn't enough!

    4. I agree with Juanita, it's true the fact that if they had the guts to have a child they should take full responsibility for what happen that day. The parents of the little girl should be sent to jail for life for killing a child but not just any little girl but there very own daughter.

      Delete
    5. I also agree with you Juanita, the parents should face time in prison for the murder of the child. Like you said if they are old enough to have a child they should be old enough to be able to care for it but now we will see if they are old enough and prepared to face the consequences which I too believe should be time in prison.

    6. I strongly agree with you Juanita. Her parents should of been responsible enough to notice the little girl. Kids are always loud and almost impossible not to notice them. The person responsible for this reckless act should be charged for a very long time. How can someone be so unconscious of what they are doing? Furthermore, I agree with your sanction is very reasonable.

    7. I agree with you Juanita in every aspect of you opinion. The parents if they are old enough to have a child, then they should be old enough to take good care of the child. A person cannot possibly forget their child in the car, so I also think that this was no accident.

  3. I strongly believe that the parents intentionally left the child in the vehicle because you simply can't forget about a two year old in the backseat. With harsh weather conditions how could you forget to take a child out the car. The parents irresponsibility caused them the death of a child therefore I believe they should be charged. However, if the results come out as it was intentionally then the loss of an innocent life deserves to give the parents a sentence of life in prison without parole.

    5. I agree as well to your opinion Jackie. How can someone forget their two year old in the back seat? This does not make enough sense to me to make it seem like an accident. If she was old enough to have a kid, she is also old enough to take good care of the child.

  7. I believe the little girl was left in the car intentionally. No one would "accidentally" leave their child in a car on a hot and sunny day. When becoming a parent, great responsibility comes when taking care of your child. The parents should be charged because of their grave bad decisions that led to the death of their little toddler. They basically left her in the car without any kind of defense than just sit there in the car suffering by the scorching sun.

  8. I've heard stories about parents leaving their children in their vehicle wanting to go in and out in the store but something is always getting in the way and they last longer than they thought they would. Yes it's irresponsible but most parents are not willing to kill their child they don't think of the consequences. Even though I know it's wrong I don't think they would mean to kill their child. But I would still charge them for it because it's still a crime. If it was intentionally I would give them life in prison without parole.

Second of all whether it was a accident or not which I don't believe it was an accident, parents should know that they should watching their children at all times and taking care of them. 2. I have to disagree with you about this being an accident. Espesically because there have been stories like this on the news the parents should have know better than to leave her in the car. 4. I understand where you’re coming from Jocelyn, when my little sister was two years old my mom had accidentally left her inside the vehicle. Like you said sometime parents get so busy that they forget their precious child. Obviously my mom did not mean to forget her, but as soon as she realized what she had done she went back to retrieve her. If the parents of the child had indeed left her by accident, I would not sentence them to any punishment because I believe that the death of their child would be punishment enough.

    5. Ashley really does have a good point. The parents should at least know better than to leave their child unsupervised. Even if it was an accident it's still a big mistake on their part.

    6. You're right Jocelyn. There had to be so many different reasons that something like this could happen but there always just one. Either they left the child intentionally or they forgot the child. Either way it will be put to justice for the child and whatever happens the parents will know the real cause and it will be found out.

      Delete
    7. I disagree with you Jocelyn. I believe that it was intentionally. A child being left in the car alone in extreme heat is just one way to put the child in danger. If the parent was going in and out the store real quick and decided to leave their child in the car to save time what about the other situations that can happen such as the car being broken into while the child is alone or the child being kidnapped? Leaving a child in a vehicle is dangerous period .

  9. I strongly believe that the parents left there child in the care intentionally. It wouldn't make sense how a parent would leave there little girl in the car mean while the temperature out side is extremely hot. Honestly, that was no accident of the parents of the child to leave her in there. Yes, I would charge the parents cause it's there responsibility to take good care of there child, in that case they should be charge for what they committed.

Good parents should be taking precautions of their children. The way they acted was irresponsible and also cost a two year old her life . 1. I agree with you, Ariana, a parent that is responsible enough would have enough common sense to know when or where their child has gone. Many other incidents such as this one say it's been reported an accident. How do you "accidently" forget a child?! That has to be some form of abuse even if it wasn't intentional.

    3. I disagree in that it was intentional, unless you looked up the whole story on this case, Ariana. But it seems that you may have changed your mind over the course of writing this blog because after you state that you believe it was intentional, you then describe the death of this 2 year old as devastating and say it was "made by a careless mistake". Based on the paragraph we all were given to read alone, we cannot say, with certainty, that whoever did this, which we do not know either (purely based on the paragraph), did it accidentally Or on purpose. But I do believe that whoever is responsible for this death, regardless of it being intentional or a careless mistake, should go to prison.

    5. I believe that the parents did not just leave their child accidently. They were probably being careless and irresponsible and because of their actions their child is now dead. What ever reason they had for leaving her in the car also makes it sound worse since the weather was also quite scorching. Although I've seen that knowing their daughter is gone is punishment enough but it does count as a murder rather it was incidental or accidentally caused.

  15. Yes, I believe that the parents left the little girl in the car intentionally. A parent doesn't just forget they have a kid with them, and doesn't just leave them in a hot weather. They might have thought they were going to go real quick to get something, but probably took forever. That just shows that they were irresponsible and knew what they were doing. Hence, authorities are still investigating on what might have caused the little girl's death. However, I would charge the parents because, they know what they did wasn't on accident. I would charge them 40 years to prison without parole.

Whoever was as guardian of the child at the moment could have lots on their mind. We do not know the full details of what or why it happened exactly. She had that baby for 2 years now . She should know right from Wrong. The statics say that more people have been doing it on accident , but what about the ones that did it on purpose . 30. There has been many cases like this particular incident, especially when the weather is extremely hot! I don't think it is right for most of you all to say or give your opinion on how the parents did this intentionally. I think this case should be taken into a deeper investigation. Yes I am aware of the 2 year old's death. The fact that her parents are going to live with her death their whole lives is punishment enough. However if the results end up being that the incident was intentionaly. I believe the parents should be charged and taken to prison.

  35. I believe there are insufficient details about this case to start accusing someone of the two year old's death. We need more details to decide if it was intentional or not. The parents could have thought the toddler was sleeping in her bed or could have simply forgotten to take her down. Reports about children being left in the car happen a lot through the year. Hence, I believe the parents left the child unintentionally and should be facing 10 years in prison.

  36. In my opinion, I believe that this incident was no accident. Why would a parent "forget" their own child in a vehicle with the temperature rising outside. A living being isn't something you would forget, especially when that being is your own child. When more investigation is put into the case, they should charge the woman with 10 years of imprisonment with parole. No child should be left behind!

I believe the 2 years old girl was left in the car intentionally the reason why is because how can a parent forget their own child in the car.A child is the most important thing a parent has and should always come first. Also, couldn't they have notice that their two years old daughter wasn't around them. I agree on how the parents of the two years old girl should be charged and arrested.

  39. I strongly believe that the parents intentionally left their child in the car and should be charged. The parents should be charged because as a parent I do not understand how you leave or forget your child is in the backseat. As a parent you take on a role, and that role is to always protect your child and be responsible for them. A parent is suppose to protect their child and always make sure they are in good hands. I understand mistakes, but after a certain point you have to realize that your child is not with you. That's why I believe these parents should be charged.

  40. I believe the little girl was left there intentionally. I understand how parents can get busy, but there's no way someone could forget their children in a hot car. I believe that the little girl was left there with the intention of murdering her. I have a 2 year old nephew, and is literally impossible not to notice him. Most babies are always loud and crazy. Which makes it even harder to understand how someone could forget their child inside a car. Although we don't know the full details the person responsible for this should be charged. In my opinion, I would give them 30 years without parole.

    3. Unless people did their research on the case, I don't see how they all seem to agree that this was intentional. To your point Flor, I get where you're coming from when you say that it's impossible to not notice a 2 year old but you don't seem to acknowledge the fact that not every child has the same personality. They're not all loud and I'm willing to bet not even most of them are. That being said flor, nothing is impossible. The person who was, at the time, supervising the child, if anyone at all, may have a mental illness such as amnesia. As for the punishment for someone who did this intentionally and knowingly, it seems fair and that's what I would give them aswell so I agree with you on that aspect.

  41. I believe that the girl was left in the car intentionally, because someone cannot just forget about their child like that. Also I think that the parents do need to be charged for their irresponsible behavior with the child. If the child had not died I think that Child Protective Services must intervene, again if the child had not died. For the irresponsible behavior of the parents I think they should receive 5 years in prison with no parole.

If they don’t know how to properly care for a 2 year old then why would they have a kid? I think the parents should get life in prison with no parole. If they would have left something else in the care then they might have returned for it.

Not everyone is glued to it, so please don't make assumptions about an individual if you have no concrete evidence to support your accusation. Everyone says that it wasn't an accident like they haven't ever made a mistake. We live in a time where things like this happen all the time, and people nowadays are too ignorant to see the other side. What if it was a mistake? I happen to know people whose made a mistake similar to this, and they are truly suffering everyday living with the fact that they made a grave mistake. Try not to be so blindsided and biased. In CJ, you cant be biased, you have to think of endless possibilities, because in the end, all that matters is the truth, and what could be done to fix it, not your own personal feelings.

Therefore, they should be put in prison for life for the death of an innocent 2 year old who didn’t know what was going on.

  46. I believe that the incident was an accident. How many cases do you hear about children being accidentally left inside of a car? Too many to even count. I think they should continue their investigation, and if the parents really did leave the girl in the car by accident, give them some help. Its bad enough they have to suffer the death of their child. People make horrible mistakes, everyone does. There comes a time when a person has so much on their mind, they forget what they've done, and they get lost in the moment. And if you ever say that you never forget things or never make mistakes, two claps for you. We all know that is one big fat fib. Dont forget, you may be a parent one day, whose to say that this tragedy won't happen to you?

    1. Okay, first of all there is a huge difference between leaving some keys in the car and leaving a human being in the car. No matter how many things are on your mind and how many problems are going on, there is no excuse for this. As a parent your child always comes first. Yes, it's only human to make mistakes, we all do, but common sense. How long was it gonna take them before they realized their baby wasn't with them? They deserve jail time accident or not, an innocent child's life was taken because of the parent's stupidity.

    2. Jona, I totally agree with the fact that you stated that we all make mistakes. It's true we all make mistakes because we're only human. However that doesn't give you permission to not receive some sort of punishment for the death of an innocent child. Those who would intentionally harm a child will state that it was accidentally and they would get away with it. Therefore, I somewhat disagree with part of your statement. I do agree that this case should be investigated more thoroughly to make sure they find out exactly why this tragic incident occurred.

    3. I understand why you say this could have been an accident. Yes, we make mistakes. Yes, we forget things from time to time, but I honestly can say that chances of me leaving my child in a locked car in high temperatures are very unlikely. A kid is not something you just forget to take out your car when you go shopping or whatever. It's a form of life that always has to be taken care of with a lot of responsibility. I know the little girl's parents may be devastated, but oh well. Every bad decision has its consequence. Theirs is going to have to be a good time in prison.

  52. I think no parent would leave their child in the car “accidentally”. Therefore, I believe the 2 year old girl’s parents left her in the car intentionally. Whether or not the little girl might have locked herself in the car, her parents should have been out looking for her. If it was accidentally, it’s strange how her parents didn't think about the probability of the girl getting locked in the car. I would charge the parents because they weren't careful of the girl’s surroundings. It could have been prevented. She was too young to know what was wrong and right.

  55. The parents knew what they were doing when they left their little two year old daughter in the car. I don't think they meant to kill her, but like how Juanita stated it was a bad decision that will haunt them forever. Regardless, they are still guilty for the death of the child. Hence, I would give them 10 to 15 years in prison with a chance of parole.

  57. Purely based on the information given to us here we cannot decipher with certainty that the girl was left there by her parents intentionally or accidentally. It's obviously tragic, the death of a 2 year old girl and whoever did this, if anyone at all, should indeed be sentenced to prison. 1. Yes, I agree with you Victor. Parents should be aware of where their child is at and what he or she is doing at all times. The incident happened at a residence, chances are it was their home. An innocent life was taken away due to a guardians fault. As I said before the parents should have been aware of what their daughter was doing and be concern on where she was! It might have been a hot weather and if the child was in a car then she obviously probably suffocated her self with the hot weather. Further more the parents should be charged for a maximum sentence for their actions .

    1. I agree with you, Javier. It all depends of whether it was an actual accident or if it was done intentionally but in either case be charged for the child’s death. The parents might have had a lot on their minds but regardless of that they should have been aware on where she was at and if she had got down from the car. Further investigation should be brought upon to know exactly what happened and what was the exact cause of her death but either way the parents should receive some type of sentence. We are humans and we all make mistakes which we some regret and some we take as lessons learned and I could imagine how harsh it might be for the parents if they cared a lot for their child. In other words they should still receive some type of punishment although it might be hard but justice should be done.

I personally believe the parent(s) left the child inside the car intentionally because no matter what, a parent would not forget if their child was left unattended in the car if they brought that child with them. 61. Yes, I personally believe what happened to the little girl was intentionally. The parents should have remembered her, there is no further details given but if the child is an only child then the parents should have remembered her. A parent’s main concern should be the safety of their child but then again we all live different lives therefore it may not be intentional, then again it’s impossible to forget ONE child and specially it being the only one, if that was the case. If the parents are guilty of the child’s death then further investigation should be done to determine what exactly were they thinking when that happens. I would give the parents life in prison.
